INOFO Chairperson, Shamika Mone, now elected to the IFOAM World Board

This is what the farmers of the world were eager to hear! In her capacity, Shamika Mone, the President of the Intercontinental Network of Organic Farmer Organisations (INOFO), is the representative of organic farmers around the world alongside other stakeholder representatives in the organic value chain!

Shamika Mone, a native of Maharashtra and a resident of Kerala, India got elected to the IFOAM Organics International World Board, yesterday at the Digital General Assembly (Sept 13,14). This event has taken place after the 20th Organic World Congress in Renne, France (Sept 6 – 10). She is a small family farmer growing traditional varieties of rice and vegetables and is a member of the Kerala Jaiva Karshaka Samithi. Her early foray into organics was through being an early driver of the Organic Farming Association of India (OFAI). 

She took to the world organic stage through learning, imbibing, and promoting the efforts of farmers around the world. Armed with grassroots wisdom, she is passionate to build synergies and strengthen the organic movement in favour of the farmers. 

Other members elected to the World Board are active members in the organic Movements from all continents including the Pacific, Latin America, Asia, United States, Europe and Africa. For the first time in World Board history, there are seven women members and a greater number of youth.
