The Inter-Continental Network of Organic Farmers Organisations (INOFO) is delighted to announce the election of the new Council Convenors for Oceania Pasifika for the term 2024-2027. These dedicated leaders were mandated and elected during the 2024 INOFO Oceania Pasifika General Assembly, held virtually to accommodate the diverse and widespread communities of the Pacific region. Their election marks a significant step forward in representing and advocating for organic farmers across Oceania Pasifika on the INOFO Global Council.
Each convenor brings a wealth of experience, a deep commitment to sustainable agriculture, and a passion for empowering farming communities. Their collective expertise will be instrumental in advancing organic farming practices, promoting food sovereignty, and strengthening the resilience of agricultural systems throughout the Pacific islands. Jama’l Talagi – Niue
Niue Organic Farmers Association
Jama’l Talagi is a pioneering advocate for organic agriculture in Niue. As a leading member of the Niue Organic Farmers Association, Jama’l has been instrumental in promoting sustainable farming practices that honor traditional knowledge and protect the island’s unique biodiversity. Her efforts have focused on empowering local farmers through education and capacity-building initiatives, ensuring that organic farming becomes a cornerstone of Niue’s agricultural landscape. As a convenor, Jama’l aims to amplify the voices of Niuean farmers, advocate for policies that support organic agriculture, and foster regional collaboration within Oceania Pasifika.
Elizabeth Pickering – Fiji/Australia
Marama Vanilla Fiji
Elizabeth Pickering, based in Fiji and Australia, is the founder of Marama Vanilla Fiji, an enterprise dedicated to sustainable vanilla cultivation and empowering women farmers. Her work emphasizes the importance of organic practices, fair trade, and community development. Elizabeth has been a vocal advocate for women’s participation in agriculture, providing training and support to enhance their skills and economic opportunities. As a convenor, she plans to leverage her experience to support organic farmers across Oceania Pasifika.
Floris Niu – Samoa
Ms Sunshine Organic Farms
Floris Niu is the founder of Ms Sunshine Organic Farms in Samoa, where she has championed organic farming and agroecology. Her initiatives have centered on sustainable land management, climate resilience, and promoting organic produce in local and international markets. Floris is committed to preserving Samoan agricultural traditions while integrating innovative organic practices. As a convenor, she aims to strengthen the network of organic farmers in Samoa and the broader Pacific region, facilitating knowledge exchange and advocating for supportive agricultural policies.
