From March 19th to 21st, 2024, Thales B. M., Global Relationship Manager of INOFO, had the privilege to represent our organization at the prestigious Global Conference on Family Farming – World Rural Forum (WRF). This marked a significant milestone for INOFO, as it was our first invitation to join this esteemed gathering, following successful networking efforts at the previous FAFO event.

The conference, meticulously organized with various sessions featuring distinguished speakers from Farmers’ Organizations (FOs), governmental bodies, and key players such as International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and United Nations Decade of Family Farming (UNDFF), covered an array of crucial topics. These discussions included the assessment of the first five years of UNDFF implementation, the role of National Committees on Family Farming in policy dialogue, the pivotal leadership of rural youth in transforming food systems, forging new alliances to tackle environmental and social challenges, as well as addressing issues like land access, land grabbing, and gender disparities within farming and food systems.

One of the highlights of our participation was the official recognition of INOFO as a member of WRF, signifying a deepening commitment to the cause of family farming on a global scale. Additionally, the opportunity for INOFO to potentially participate in the upcoming UNDFF mid-term conference at FAO HD in October 2024 underscores our growing influence and relevance in shaping agricultural policies and practices worldwide.

Moreover, Thales noted a remarkable increase in INOFO’s visibility during the conference. As he interacted with fellow attendees, the mention of INOFO instantly resonated, showcasing a notable shift from just a few years ago when our organization was less known. This enhanced recognition speaks volumes about the strides we’ve made in amplifying our presence and impact within the global agricultural community.

Furthermore, our strengthened partnerships with fellow FOs, particularly those affiliated with IFAD, and other stakeholders, signify collaborative efforts towards achieving shared goals and objectives in promoting sustainable agriculture and rural development.
During the conference, Thales had the privilege to engage in a meaningful dialogue with the Vice Minister of Agrarian Development of Brazil, delving into pertinent national issues concerning our members.

In retrospect, the Global Conference on Family Farming – World Rural Forum was an enriching experience for INOFO. It reaffirmed our steadfast commitment to championing organic and agroecological approaches to agriculture, which have been at the core of our mission for many years. As discussions continue to converge around these principles, we remain resolute in our dedication to empowering family farmers and fostering organic and sustainable food systems for generations to come.
